Expertise, Training and Oversight
The SleepTech® Medical Advisory
Board monitors the quality, standards, and practices of all of the
company's scoring, data acquisition, clinical trials, database and
research projects. In addition, the Board also assists in the training
of technologists and provides on-going training and education programs
to SleepTech's clinicians and affiliated Hospital physicians.
The Board's members are
distinguished leaders in sleep medicine — not only for their
record of service, but also for their significant contributions
to sleep thought and research.
Preetam Schramm, PhD
As Embla Systems', Principle Clinical Specialist, Dr. Preetam Schramm assessed the clinical value and performance of Embla products including but not limited to evaluating the sleep analytical software packages of RemLogic and Rembrandt. He determined the clinically suitable of software applications for the company to develop and market. In 2007, cardiopulmonary coupling as an alternative analytical software was adopted and endorsed as a viable clinical option at Embla based on his recommendation.
Additional responsibilities involved conducting research and writing scientific documents (e.g. clinical studies, protocols, final study reports & regulatory documents) covering a wide range of therapeutic areas for both customers and regulatory agencies. Dr. Schramm provided training to sleep lab clinicians and technicians on the clinical utility of Embla's products
Dr. Preetam Schramm was the Director at the Center for Sleep Physiology and Medicine, St. John's Cardiovascular Center in the department of medicine, at Harbor - UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles, California from 1999 to 2001.
His clinical research knowledge consists of sleep physiology, pharmacological interventions in pulmonary and mental disorders. His basic science animal investigations emphasized neurophysiology, neuro-pharmacology and neuroendocrinology.
Dr. Schramm has contributed to numerous scientific publications and participated in many scientific investigations in the field of Sleep medicine, Psychiatry Research, Neuroscience, Neuropharmacology and Neuroendocrinology. Recent works involve the use of cardiopulmonary coupling analysis to phenotype sleep disordered breathing, predict treatment outcomes in sleep breathing disorders and identify complex sleep apnea.
Charles
F.P. George, MD; FRCPC; ABIM; D,ABSM
A sleep specialist and
published researcher with more than 15 years experience, Dr. Charles
George is an internationally recognized expert on sleep disorders
and their affects on performance. He is a Professor of Medicine
at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada and serves
as SleepTech Consulting Group's Principal Investigator. His research
has focused on the assessment of sleepiness and performance in patients
with disorders of excessive daytime sleepiness and he has published
extensively in the area of driving performance in patients with
sleep apnea and narcolepsy. Dr. George's research support has been
from industry and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (formerly
Medical Research Council of Canada) and the Ministry of Transportation
of Ontario.
John
J. Villa, DO; FCCP; D,ABSM
As corporate Medical
Director of SleepTech, LLC, Dr. John Villa is responsible for the
clinical overview of the company's Policy and Procedures and for
consulting with physicians affiliated with SleepTech centers.
Dr. Villa completed his
medical school training at University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. He next completed
a rotating internship at Union Hospital in Union, NJ. Dr. Villa
completed his internal medicine training at University of Medicine
and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
He completed fellowships in both pulmonary and critical care medicine
at New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Villa is currently
an associate at Northern New Jersey Pulmonary Associates, PC in
Hackensack, NJ. He is on staff at Hackensack University Medical
Center and Holy Name Hospital, both in northern New Jersey. He maintains
both clinical and academic responsibilities — treating pulmonary,
critical care and sleep medicine patients as well as teaching medical
students, residents and fellows from New Jersey Medical School.
Andrew
S. Binder, MD; FCCP, FAASM, D,ABSM ABIM
Andrew S. Binder, MD has been practicing sleep medicine since 1989. He was the founder and medical director of The Sleep Disorders Center of Santa Barbara, which in 1992, was the 17th accredited free standing sleep center in the country. After practicing Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine from 1978 through 1998, he restricted his practice to sleep medicine. He has served on the volunteer clinical teaching faculty affiliated with University of Southern California School of Medicine as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine. He now serves as the Director of Medical Physiology with the Institute for Comprehensive Metabolic Evaluation and Treatment in Ventura, California, where he provides cardiopulmonary and sleep medicine evaluation on obese patients who are considering bariatric surgery for treatment of their obesity.
Dr. Binder graduated Magna Cum Laude from Williams College, Massachusetts in 1967 where he majored in English literature and went on to get his MD degree from Harvard Medical School in 1971. He did his Internal Medicine training at the University of Washington, Seattle and his Pulmonary Medicine training at UC San Francisco. After practicing in Berkeley for several years, he traveled to Santa Barbara, California in 1980, where he continued to practice until 2007.
He has published scientific articles relating to the pathophysiology of pulmonary edema, and has authored several patents related to technology for evaluating exercise physiology. He introduced the first oximeter to the Santa Barbara community and gave the very first Sleep Apnea lecture to his colleagues in Santa Barbara.
Susan
Madison, MD; PHD, FAASM, FCCP
Dr. Susan Madison is board certified in sleep medicine and pulmonary medicine and has been medical director of multiple sites totaling 16 bed sleep capacity. She has received numerous academic awards and honors. Dr. Madison received her doctorate from UCLA in the department of physiology. She had the honor of presenting her doctoral thesis focusing on the control of breathing in man at Oxford during the Royal Physiological Society annual meeting. She is currently in private practice in Scottsdale Arizona, and has donated her time extensively to public and physician forums in an effort to raise awareness and educate about sleep disorders. She is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
